Companies operating energy pipelines are teaming together to learn how you, our neighbors and gas utility customers, want us to better communicate safety information about existing pipelines in the United States.

As an industry, we are working with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA) and other stakeholders to review and update the “Public Awareness Programs for Pipeline Operators” guidelines for safety communication, known as American Petroleum Institute (API) Recommended Practice (RP) 1162.

Your input is important and will help us communicate more effectively with you and others like you who live and work near pipelines. Your feedback and comments will be provided to the 1162 Task Group for consideration as it finalizes recommendations for the 3rd Edition of API RP 1162.
